Lessons > Lesson 3 > Delivery

1. Introduction: Looking at homework responses.

Review the homework and how they managed to complete the quizzes.

Develop this by:

  • Asking if there were any types of questions that were easier to answer than others.
  • What types of questions were difficult?
  • Were any questions ambiguous? What does this mean?
  • How could the quizzes be changed for the better?

Show pupils the language cards language3 for this lesson.

2. Sample sizes, presenting information.

When looking at responses, in particular with questionnaires, the size of the 'sample' is important.

Develop this by:

  • What is meant by the term 'sample size'?
  • Why they think it is important - give examples.
  • What are the drawbacks of a small sample?
  • What are the disadvantages of using a large sample?

Responses can be represented in many ways including graphs/charts.

Show pupils the presentation about sample sizes and presenting information. There are notes3a to accompany it.

3. Plenary: Review of the unit.

Review the unit, asking questions about:

  • Local knowledge.
  • Quizzes and questionnaires.
  • Gathering resources.
  • Sample sizes and presenting information.

Pupils are encouraged to find and evaluate 'online quizzes' and to reflect on how their own quiz could be adapted.

Homework:

Hand out homework3.

As this is the final lesson, ask pupils to produce a revision sheet for this unit of work.

You may feel it appropriate to provide the homework sheet in electronic format for those pupils with computer access at home. Consideration should then be given to:

  • How they would return the work and the style - electronic or printed
  • Virus protection
  • Authenticity of the work
