Wind

Wind is the air moving becuase of different areas of pressure in the atmosphere.

It moves from areas of high pressure to those of low pressure. The bigger the difference between the areas of high and low pressure, the faster the wind.

Measuring Wind
Traditionally, weather stations used anemometers to measure the speed of the wind and separate weather vanes to show wind direction.

Now, aerovanes are often used. A single piece of equipment that records wind speed using a propeller and a vane to record wind direction (i.e. the direction the wind is blowing from). Wind speed is measured in miles per hour (mph) or knots. Weather maps will often show the direction and speed of the wind in one symbol.
